  • basic hosting question

    Hi,

I am in the market for new hosting and have a basic question. When looking around for hosting, getting quotes etc it is essential to know your requirements. I would like to know about how different server resources effect a hosted web site? What does the RAM do, what does the cpu do, what about the hard drive? And then, how can I determine if I should look for more cpu power, or more ram or a faster hdd? I am generally not sure what I should look for.

I currently have a reseller account and one vps. The vps seems to be great, the reseller account has issues all the time so I need to find something new. Now,
    - should I get another vps?
    - should i look for a dedicated and put everything on there
    - one larger vps and move all sites there?

I need fully managed service with plesk/cpanel and good support. Budget would be in the $80 to $120 range.

I am a web designer, so hosting is not something I am very experienced with. I just need something that is secure, doesnt give me many problems, is somewhat affordable.

First of all, we offer a range of servers at http://customcf.com, please feeel free to take a look and ask any questions you wish.

We offer a range of servers and a managed service which can be purchased via the order page.

Basically, servers work much like a computer, the main things you should look for as a hosting provider is Hard Drive space and uplinks, but getting a decent cpu and ram is important. Multi-cores are the way forward and 4gigs ram would start you off well.

However, it might be a challenge to find such a server at you price range, but I'm sure if you look around you'll find something to suit you.

I also wouldn't recommend getting a dedicated server unless you're already earning enough to pay it off with the customers you already have, but I'm sure you thought of budget already.

VPS might be a good option for you at the moment, depending on how many customers you have and how much you expect to grow in the near future, however, dedicated servers do offer more flexibility.

Well.?? Just like a person told to clean up the back yard.. The rake's on the garage and the gloves are in the attic and the mower's in your neighbors house.. Its gonna cost you your time gathering all those resources from different locations for a single task.. get it.?

A reseller account is a plan or package you can get from a hosting company, allowing you to "resell" hosting via your website.
