Some differences between paid and free are:

Free hosting services will most times expect you to show ads on your site. You will also be much more limited to the amount of disk space and transfer you can use. Software on a free host is usually pretty limited as well.

Paid hosting usually offers more reliability. More disk space and transfer. And usually much more software and options available for use. There is usually less users on a server with paid hosting as well.

about the speed it depends on the company.. some free are good some are bad, some paid are good and some are bad.. you should look for a reliable one.! either pain or not..

May tell that I would never use free hosting from moneymaking project or some serious information resource, as such companies are irresponsible about uptime and quality.

Most free hosts don't offer any type of guarantee, so if you use free services and the quality or uptime is not that great, you really can't complain. This is not to say all free hosts are of bad quality. Some provide excellent service.
