There are several factors due to which a web site owner may decide to switch his web hosting company. Poor technical support, unable to meet your basic web hosting requirements, excessive web server down time or your sudden discovery of a cheaper web hosting service are just a few to name.

*Once you have decided to change your web hosting company, you will need to download all the current files that you are using in your web site.
*You will also need to consider the type of site that you have. A basic HTML site can be maintained and managed by any average web hosting company.
*While your new web hosting account gets ready, it is better that you take a backup of all your web files that are stored on the old hosting provider.
*You can use your temporary login information so as to upload all your web files to the new host, even before you actually change your domain name.

Also, if your previous host and your new host both use cPanel, your new host can easily transfer your account from your previous host. This is the best and easiest method if both hosts support cPanel.

Yeah I agree, making sure the other host can support your format is important. I made that mistake once.

I'm still completely new at learning all of this, but, different hosts run different formats? I was under the assumption that there was a universal format that could be trasnferred from host to host, but I'm assuming this is incorrect. What are the more transferable formats that the popular sites utilize?
