    Re: Paid or free??

For me it has to be free, I would prefer to not have to put out money on the host and put it into marketing or other sources then have to pay for a host and worry every month if I can afford the next months, also with a free host if they have problems you have not lost money nas when paying you would of done!

      Re: Paid or free??

Free hosts are good until your site gets too large, at which point you have to switch to a paid host (possibly a dedicated server).

I know that FusionXHost has great hosting for free. (great uptime as well).

          Re: Paid or free??

From my experiences, free hosting has been horrible. Unreliable, ad cluttered, etc. Pay! Even if you pay yearly! Paypaypay!

            Re: Paid or free??

I have a hosting company. And I never required ads or pop ups. I prefer them to move on to paid hosting eventuallyA(usually I give them up to 3 months). Unless they give something in return like scripts or moderating a forum for me. I figured that is something in return for payment.

I dont prefer Free hosts at all. I always go with paid hosts. Free hosts might run away some day. Also they have all ads on them

                Re: Paid or free??

I have tried in the past many hosting providers, some free and some resellers from ebay. With all of them I had a problem at some time: sometimes their servers were down, other times their servers were misconfigured or hacked and put down for days. I think only a paid host and one with a good name in the market provides you reliability. I could use free ones or very cheap ones only for projects that I will be selling

                  Re: Paid or free??

If I am serious about the site I am willing to host then paid hosting is my choise since I get much more features and more BW, diskspace, email accounts,....also you get much better support and reliability than free hosting.
On the other hand, I would use free hosting for 'test' sites and maybe use it to upload some files to it!

                    Re: Paid or free??

i prefer paid hosting , there are many reasons but the most important one is full access to your files ( data ) , some free hosts nowadays run out at anytime so that cause lot of data loss, although daily backups can help , secondly the uptime from free hosts are very low.

                      Re: Paid or free??

I agree. Still from my experince a minimal configueration paid host is better than all the bells and whistles paid host. I have been using a free host since years now but now i am more happy with my paid host now

But, if you are hosting a business website or something with some importance to it, you should go for a quality paid host for sure!

                            I will say: pay hosting
but if you pay cents for a host well looks like a free host
If you want a good host, probably you will have to pay some dollars
