In my opinion, free hosting is best for new-bee, learner, practicing, etc... There are many drawbacks like, ads, low space, reduced bandwidth, minimized features & some restriction... but in return you have not to pay anything...
For businesses or serious ventures paid hosting is the ultimate solution...

i personally feel that it depends on what is comming with those packages.... some web sites offer free domains and hosting but they keep their ads in the sites which will be covering some part of our site.....and some offer very low cost domain names and hosting which is almost equal to free (just 2$) and they dont keep any sort of ads in our site.... so it entirely depends on the packages that hosting sites r giving....

Both have there advantages
Free hosting is free
and paid hosting has no tensions with it.
if you have a light site then go for free hosing and if have a heavy(which eats up lots of bandwidth) then better go with a paid one.High Value Domain Yard : hvdy.com
A blog for domainers, find out many usefull things here

free or paid where you pay neither for the software nor for the virtual hosting. for free webhosting it offers very few features as compared to the paid services. You cannot post pictures online or design your preferred look for your site. The companies that provide free software and free web hosting frequently place a banner immediately above your site. This detracts the visitors from the look of your site. You also have no discretion over the content of the advertisements.
The key advantage of this system is that it is absolutely free. This option is extremely useful for a newcomer since he/she can try this method to find if they are really interested in blogging.

My small advice to you - You can choose them yourself, but remember this:
Free hosts have many limited things such as 1 mySQL , 100mb or so. If it offers many space, mySQL's, PHP databases or so.... but... It may lag, turn the server off for long time. You won't find these things on paid hosting.

I say both because if you how to pick the right hosting for right site you can use both. I use both and I have found few very good free web hosting services. I use them for my new sites and for mini site.

Nothing incorrectly with commencing commenced with a free host to learn the ropes. But finally you ought switch to a paid host so that you don't have to put up with the ads that the free-hosts formerly put on your site. Plus you can then put up your own Google ads which can pay for the price of low-price hosts.

looks on what you necessitate to horde really. If it is just a little personal blog or something that is not that significant, then a good free host may do for a while. But, if you are hosting a business website or something with some grandness to it, you should go for a character paid host for certainly.

I prefer paid hosting.. I have tried some free hosting services, but the result was really bad.. Once, that free server crashed and I'd lost my 2 websites. Now my websites are in the safe place: http://balticservers.com It's paid, but really good hosting and the prices are affordable.
