  • Do you backup your website?

Do you backup your own website locally to protect against service failure, attacks, etc?

Does your web hosting provider offer backups by default, or do you have to pay?

I've seen one user claim they would be charged over $300 to restore a single file. Does your host charge to restore files or databases?

Data protection is very important for a website. Though some web hosting services provide data backup on your behalf, but it is always safe to have your own backup to stay on the safer side of online website data.

We should not rely only on web hosting companies for backup files and websites. If you have your website backup then you can easily restore your website without paying any additional charges. Definitely hosting providing companies highly charge for restoring files.

Some web hosting companies provide this, others don't. I don't rely on them to keep my data safe so I back up locally. If they mess up or have hardware failure, attack, etc. I won't be affected and still have my data which I even back up here as well. I keep at least 2 copies of all my sites and they are stored in different forms.

depends how much control you have via cpanel...if your cpanel offers an option "Full backup".. then just send a mail to support if this will backup your entire website. including any databases which you may have running.. if they assure then just go ahead and take the backup.. if you have FULL access ( root access or FTP access on your server, then backup and download the entire web folder along with any database, mails etc .....

If you have an individual VPS which has windows installed, you can open CPANEL of your site and choose FULL BACKUP in the Backup section and download to your vps. That's how you can backup your site online without paying 1 cent to the hosting provider. You should do this once everyday so you can have the most new version of your site when you face problems with it.

Website backups are an essential part of owning and maintaining a website. It is the site owner’s responsibility to keep a recent backup of your site files in case the unforeseen happens and restoration is required. Having a copy of your site files on your own computer can be very useful in case something happens like a malware attack or you accidentally erase or overwrite a file – having a copy on hand can minimize the stress and time of recovery.

For simple designing html site you can always keep the backup on your local compute . main issue about backups is for dynamic database driven website . Most server provide backups free of costs. Otherwise you can always zip the website and keep backup on server itself.
