When is it time to switch to a dedicated server? Someone said when your forum has 100 people on at once. I'm getting more downtime than before though. Should I switch?

you'll be switching to dedicated server.. after only having 100 people on the forum.. its foolishness. If it was thousands then I would recommend to go for dedicated server. But for only 100 users.. you need more bandwidths.. if it exceeds or near to exceed.

A quality vps may be your next step. It should be able to handle quite a few users at a time. The actual amount will vary depending on what else you may have hosted on the same account, ram etc.

if money not issue, then proceed. there is future growth in dedi server. and you could start more services/forums easily. go for professional, when time has come

A shared server should be able to carry 100 people easy. Maybe you should think about changing hosts if you continue to have problems.

I think www.mamangemybox.com, or www.tektonic.net, both offer dedicated servers or VPS's and are a good start.

You have to think twice before rent a dedy because a server is not cheap, and you need some lunux skills to manage that

You can get a small VPS for under $15. That's a good first step up.

Get a reliable VPS solution, no need to spend $$$ on servers, It will just be a waste of resource and money.

You have to think twice before rent a dedy because a server is not cheap, and you need some lunux skills to manage that

At least one month is the time that it takes to be fully confident with Your dedicated server.
An it costs!

There are hosts that offer both VPS (in several sizes) and dedicated servers. If you go with one, they can move you up as you grow.

agree.. and not much support also, you will have to work out most of the confuguration yourself. or pay $$$ for it

I agree but it will happen when your hosting provider provide you good server uptime
