I have been developing in Drupal for many years, but a few things now bother me about it, one big one being the need to rebuild every site completely with every new major version upgrade.
Therefore, I have been working more with WordPress lately. My current project is a site with a custom sales page and I am building a custom referral tracking tool. So in short, I want visitors to be able to register on the site to be a referrer, and then I give them a link to use to send referrals and then I track who uses their link by storing a cookie and then I can see what purchases were sent by that person.
In Drupal, the user creation/login/edit process is seamless because there is no "backend" but in WordPress, by default all these pages are totally different from the main site. I see I can spend time and customize all of these pages with plugins and coding, but I am wondering if it's worth it--perhaps I should just use Drupal.
Or perhaps no one else minds a different look for user creation/login/edit pages and I'm just so used to Drupal that it's confusing. Although I do think that most sites that I use don't have a unique "backend" interface. Some do, however, this is true.
OK, that's my basic dilemma now, as I begin this project. Any feedback is appreciated.
