Hi there, folks!
I've been following this forum for opinions and even posted a little bit, but I've never written a review. I decided I've been a log time with BigScoots and they surely deserve a review.
Some history:
I just checked my account to see how long I've been with them and I was surprised to notice the first time I used their service was in 2013. My first invoice was for a shared server in 11/18/2013. Since singing up for the first time I've switched service levels several times, going from shared to reseller to VPS and back to shared. Also, I've tried other providers some times (including WP Engine) but I always came back since BigScoots was the best balance in service/price/performance.
Price: BigScoots costs a bit more and has a bit less bandwidth allowance than some other providers, but it is well worth it.
Performance: There isn't much more I can say than it is fantastic. The shared server offers a lot of resource and my site doesn't need more. Actually it offers more resources than the usual shared provider. We even had an argument here in WHT in the past saying that they are insane for allowing such limits, but the server I'm in has always been healthy even with this allowance. Besides, once I tried to let my site in WP Engine for the sake of having a fully managed Wordpress Platform and the ability to use the staging area. However my site was slower than with BigScoots shared server but with a higher fee and a fixed visitor limit and a bit more difficult to keep my own backups.
Support: Nothing more to say than effective. One occasion or another it took them a few hours to answer a ticket, but the norm is a reply within minutes with a resolution even for queries outside of the support scope. And even for sales and billing.
Availability: Well, I don't really monitor my site. It is just a hobby site so I can't comment much on this item. Nonetheless, whenever I tried to access my site it was up and running. There was a DDoS attack some time ago but at least for me didn't notice it. I'm always campaigning in Facebook and the server was able to hold my site up without a glitch. It even make me wonder if my campaigning is really working.
Aside from this, the only complain I have is about e-mail spam filtering. They still use SpamAssassin, don't offer SpamExperts and one of their old spam filter offer costed a lot. So I had to get SpamExperts from one of their reseller. At the end I just moved my full e-mail to RackSpace from on of RackSpace's reseller and use a professional e-mail platform.
Just to finish here I do remember people doubting BigScoots' reviews in the old days, so you can see the screenshot below to prove how long I've been with them. Besides, I do believe to have already validated my domain with the mods in the old days, but I just do it again.
