Before we talk about the details of networking, we should first talk about the process of network communication. Let's take a network program such as telnet. The telnet program allows you to login to a remote system. You end up with a shell just as if you had logged in locally. Although you are inputting commands on your local keyboard and the output is appearing on your local screen, all other activity is happening on the remote machine.

Telnet occurs on port 23 and is the default port. If you would rather check to see if the host responds to mail queries use port 25 for smtp or port 110 for pop3 protocol. That will tell you alot about the tcp ip.

moving on to tcp-ip. it is a 32 bit header protocol. used at the networking layer, it is the protocol used for managing sessions, exchange of messages and ending sessions.

tcp's protocol stack is complex & interesting. you can find RFC on Internet and the famous books in your local library. TCP stands for Transmission control protocol.

TCP IP can be configured equally well in both LAN and WAN environment. A new TCP 2.0 is foing to be released. It will be a 48-bit protocol algorithm against the 32-bit old version

Most of our internet part is using TCP/IP because it is fast and reliable in connectionless connection. There are few problem in case of moblie ip where it very hard to implement and combersome job working with tcp/ip.
