To err is human. And there are so many instances when you can learn from the mistakes others committed. I would say, ‘No you should never pay for a year, and rather emphasize on monthly payments’. If you pay annually, you are getting struck with a host for 1 year. A monthly payment is your safeguard against any kind of contingency that might take place. It’s your defense against those greedy hosting companies that want to prosper at your expense. It is your defense against any kind of poor performance issues that might take place in the middle of year.

ya... normally all the hosting companies gives option only for a year payment... there is no monthly payment... so i think there is no other go.... we have to pay for one full year.... so before u pay them plesae enquire about the hoste site.... and take a step forward or else u feel very bad for full year....

No, you shouldn't. Even how much host company can be trustful, don't pay anually. Everything can happen. Maybe it's cheaper, but not safer. I'll go for monthly.

I also don't like annual payment terms. But there are lots of hosts who give great discount on yearly packages. Yes we can get stuck with a host if we are making yearly payment.
Long ago I bought a hosting package from a overselling host and paid yearly also. But after 3 months he suspended my hosting saying that my site is using too much resource and he didn't returned my money.
So with monthly payment terms you are quite safe.
But from a host owner perspective, yearly payment give a host owner full satisfaction of mind and he has the money to pay all the server or co-location fees. Yearly payment gives a host owner good financial backup from client's side.TigerHostBD.com - Next Generation Hosting Provider

Well I do not pay monthly for my hosting plans. In fact I paid for 2 years because I got a huge discount for paying for that long period. But I am stuck with this hosting but I believe that this hosting will be ok for me and my current sites for that much time. If I need more hosting then I can get new accounts.
So instead of paying monthly and paying for the setup fee, I chose to pay for 2 years and got a huge discount. I hope I will not face problems in the coming 695 days (that's when my hosting account expires)

I think it depends on the company. I pay yearly because I run with a big company and I get a good rate on a dedicated server. But most of these small sites that give you unlimited bandwith and such, no way would I pay a year, month to month if I felt lucky..haha Most close up and run with the money...

I think this all depends on your experience withe the web host. If the company is reputable, maybe you have been with them for a while.and you are going to save a ton of cash then go for it. In my experiences hosts especially ones that charge annually only may not be around for a year. Also my needs change constantly so to me it is not worth the few free months.

i have a service for which i payed for an entire year, it works fine until now, never had a problem with it, i suppose it depends on service... yet i prefer monthly payment

Always go for reputed hostings that have been running for some time..check their ratings and then decide...I would go for annual payment If i'm planning to do it for long term as you may be entitled for a discount that way..but make sure the company is good...may be you can try them for a sometime like most of them offer a 30 day money back these days..so there is no risk involved...
