The alexa rank is a independent rating technique calculate by its rating based on traffic levels received by each web-site. Alexa rank is not a very reliable metric due to the fact it is based solely on users with the toolbar. It can be useful for identify and analysis traffic tend. targeted programs.

It is better to not to think much about the alexa ranking because it is just tracking the users traffic who has installed toolbar on their browser. It is usually considered by the advertisers to check the traffic on a specific site but as it can be also manipulated, people don't think much about the alexa rankings any more.

Alexa algorithms is based on the traffic value, and Google has some what similar to it but count in 1 to 10, I think alexa is as the same as Google's Page rank toolbar in terms of reliability of data, sometimes Google's PR tool shows false ranks, I checked PR for a site on different PCs and found all the 3 different, hehe.. unless Google is better than all others.... coz its the pioneer of all these things..
