The page rank value indicates an importance of a particular page. A page that is linked to by many other pages with high PageRank receives a high rank itself. Page rank has many factor. high quality links and well content on the sites is always be helpful for the increasing page rank. And i also agree with that if we get the link from the high authority sites that will also help.

Page Rank means that where your site is ranked on Google and other search engines. If your Page Rank is good then it shows that your site is based on quality content. This is a difficult question to answer if you really want to know "how it works" rather than just what PageRank is.
