If your Images are beautiful and attarct people to click and also informative then you placed al tag with your keyword .It will drive traffic to your website.

Image link building is a great way to build backlinks on a daily/monthly basis

1. Create awesome images!
2. Keep a list of all the images you own for your website (Ex: Logo, Infographics, etc)
3. See if images are being used online (TinEye)
4. Automate image discovery (Image Raider)
5. Check the pages to see if they are already linking (Ahrefs SEO Toolbar)
6. Email those who are not linking and request they link to you as the source (Buzzstream)

Google ignore images and it can't read images.You have to just think about alt tags and optimize for that your image. Image link building is not so helpful for any business in DM.

Really good example is , you see a picture but there is a link behind it which points to a brand. You can do it at your blog by hypoerlinking the pictures that you add, it is a good way to increase your affiliate commission, as people like to click on pictures.

P.S. Now a lot of content are visuals because people are tend to notice visuals faster. And to be honest less and less people are reading long blog posts. So if it is possible to put a message to a picture, go for it! Good luck.

Using Google's Image Search or Tineye is also a very effective process for link building, not just to find and track your original images that may have been used ..
