Why use a PSD

I have a number of templates with the PSD files rather than being a template. Why do people create sites using a PSd rather than direct into php or html templates?

Personally I use the graphics i get and place them direct into the site design but I've only beeing doing it for a while so i am guessing there is a benefit from using the PSD can someone tell me what it is?

PSD... is it for image file?? like .jpg ???

PSD files are very much easy to modify. Suppose you created a template/site to sell but that template/site is in html or php and the graphics are in jpeg. So when someone buys that template/site from you and then he wanted to make some changes to the site color and to change some text in the banner or other graphics, so if the graphics is in psd he can easily select that layer in which he wanted to make the changes and just change it and save it unlike jpeg where we don't have layers. So it becomes very much difficult and time consuming to make changes in jpeg.

So what program do you need to turn a PSD into a HTML file, or is all that done inside photoshop.

You can edit Psd files easily and can turn the template according to your desires!.thats why all the designers provide psds

actually it's not that easy if you're new into web design. you need to cut all those images, then make an html/php for it(with the help of css of course)
