    I think you are probably referring to what I call 'geographic targetting' - this is the process of targetting potential customers, visitors, users etc that are specific to a geographic location.

    The location itself could be considered in many ways from people who live in a specific town, right up to everyone in a whole country.

    Examples of geo targetting include Google Business results in SERPS, which only appear when you add the town or city name to your search term or phrase, so you know that person is looking for something in a specific area.

          I do agree with you and yes geo targeting and geographic targeting are same. Google targeting are basically some code tags which can be done using a google analytic or manually putting then on website. It tell search engine like google to take easy decision for our potentional customer.
