  • Keyword Density

This post discussed 5 basic SEO tips and then talks about keyword density. I thought I would share this because I thought the part about KT density really stood out.

Keyword density preferred by Google is around 2%. The thing is that you need to write content for readers not to make it keyword rich. Keyword stuffing will surely affect your rankings badly.

That's not what Matt said in the article. He didn't use a % figure.

        Keyword Density:
The measurement of how frequently any given keyword appears within a web page. Too high a density can result in a web page being classified as spam while too low a density will cause a page to not be indexed as well for the given keyword.

          Hi Jen,

Matt Cutts has been quoted as saying that the keyword only needs to appear two or three times on a page to be properly indexed. That isn't exclusive to the pages content. So get your keyword into the page title, page description, and the content and you are good.

Keyword density can vary when analyzing a page for various search engines. Different search engines may use different stop words or stemming techniques, resulting in a word being counted by one engine and not counted by another.

Keyword density is a creation from the early days of the Internet when search engine were not very sophisticated. Back then you could "keyword stuff" your way to the top of the search results. It has not been applicable for most of this century. Like many things old habits and terms die slowly.

Keyword density is important as when the search engines crawls the keywords your ranking does gets affected so one must use at least 2-3% of keywords in one web page......

Keyword density might still be applicable to the Yahoo or Bing rankings but I doubt if such tactics are still useful about Google because it is now paying attention to the off page items mainly the links.

If you would have read the post before commenting you would not look so foolish stating 2%. Reading before commenting is a good practice.
