Both PHP and ASP have high points and many users can present fair arguments for using either platform. Possibly in the end it really comes down to an individual user's personal preference and past experience. Many people contend that ASP is the perfect choice for e commerce websites, but that is not necessarily true. PHP is capable of producing great results in this arena, but it is simply that more people have chosen to use ASP that this myth exists. Of course, if cost is to be taken as an issue, PHP would be the hands down winner, as in essence it is completely free.

PHP is the best as far i am using, i code comfortably having access to loads of online materials and tutorials available. Besides open source CMS like wordpress, joomla, drupal built on php makes blog building faster. Major open source scripts are built on php platform.

Best or not, the bottom line is, it depends on individual web site's needs. However, it has long been believed that Linux OS has been a lot resistant to virus compared to Windows OS so I guess that stands a distinction between which is best PHP held on Linux or ASP.net held on Windows.

Thank you if you appreciate that mate. And I would agree to you too. PHP, when we speak of being the norm, is lot more easier to get used to compared to ASP. But then again, that depends on the choice of the web programmer which we obviously know has the choice to peak whatever web language he would want to use to address clients' need. However, if client required web pages to be done using PHP, it's either two things, either you learn PHP or not accept the project at all as you appear incompetent in that matter.

PHP has a very good support for object oriented programming, on which whole scripting languages are being built nowadays. ASP.net also provides very capable support to OOP.
